Call For Abstracts

The Women in Medicine Summit (WIMS) program focuses on content related to the advancement of women in medicine. We are requesting submission of both original research and editorial pieces.

All submissions must specifically address gender differences to be eligible for submission. Please review submission guidelines below.

Deadline for submission is Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 11:59pm Eastern Time.

Editorials and abstracts accepted to WIMS will be published this winter in a special edition of the International Journal of Academic Medicine (IJAM) dedicated to #WomenInMedicine. 

Accepted abstracts will be asked to present at the in person conference in Chicago, IL at the Drake Hotel. The conference will take place on Friday, September 22nd & Saturday, September 23rd. Notifications on regarding acceptance will be sent by Tuesday, August 1st through the Oxford Abstracts portal. Submission Preparation Guidelines


WIMS accepts abstract submissions focused on gender equity from a range of perspectives including, but not limited to, identity and intersectionality, diversity & inclusion, pre-faculty development, faculty retention, socio-political issues, intervention and programming, and policy. Content that addresses these topics can be submitted in the following formats: 

  1. Abstract: Original research in the areas of social/behavioral science research, gender medicine, global health, case reports, clinical research, or basic science research (see below for full description).

  2. Inspirational Spotlight: Share an inspiring story. This category could be something that happened to you personally, a mentor or colleague who inspires you, or any story that you feel falls in this category.

  3. Perspective Piece: Share your perspective on a variety of topics such as gender equity, adversity, resilience.

Perspective pieces and Inspirational Spotlights will be considered for print only. They will not be presented at the Summit. 

In an effort to mitigate bias in the judging process, we ask that you please do not include identifying information (e.g. name, location of study, etc.) within your abstract.

 

Abstract Categories


COVID-19 Research (related to Gender or Gender Equity)

  • Scientific Content on Symptomatology

  • Testing and Treatment of COVID

  • Long Term consequences of COVID

  • Modeling/Mapping

  • Disaster response

  • Epidemiology

  • Vaccine Development

Social/Behavioral Science Research (related to Gender or Gender Equity)

Research that employs qualitative or mixed methods techniques, path analysis modeling, intervention design, implementation, testing and dissemination.

Gender Specific Medicine

Research investigating how disease diagnosis and treatment can vary as a function of gender.

Global Health Research (related to Gender or Gender Equity)

Research on populations that live outside of the United States.

Case Reports (related to Gender or Gender Equity)

Research that describes in detail one case in medicine at the patient or provider level.

Clinical Research (related to Gender or Gender Equity)

 

Basic Science Research (related to Gender or Gender Equity)

Basic or translation research related to biological sex-based differences e.g., epi/genetic, hormonal or behavioral models etc. Please see last year’s IJAM Journal for abstract category reference

The (6) top abstracts will be selected for oral presentation on Friday, September 22nd at the Women in Medicine Summit which will take place at the Drake Hotel in Chicago, IL. If selected for oral presentation or for the poster presentation, one author will need to be available to present the abstract at the respective in person session. The top oral and poster abstract will be chosen by a committee of judges and announced on Saturday, September 23rd at the Summit.

By submitting your abstract, you are agreeing that we may distribute your abstract to WIMS attendees online or in print.
